WORSHIP. What is it?

Posted on May 3, 2026May 3, 2026 By Maud No Comments on WORSHIP. What is it?

We tend to think that worship is what we do at church on Sunday morning. We spend twenty or thirty minutes singing songs about the Lord and we think that’s worship.

Worship is so much more!

I have found that some people “can’t worship” unless we sing their favorite songs, or someone plays an instrument that they feel is the right one, or maybe it has to be a certain worship leader. Or maybe all the words to the song are not correct or edifying enough even when the message is clear.

Some people say, “I can’t worship because I have no emotions”. Well, did you know that emotions are not required in order to worship God?

We also don’t worship because everything in life is good at the time. Worship is not limited to our circumstances or our feelings or lack thereof. And our worship should not be linked to our feelings or circumstances.

So, what is worship?

Worship is about God. He is God and that is why we worship Him. So, it doesn’t matter how I feel or what is happening in my life. Whether I’m on the mountain top or in the lowest valley God is still worthy of my praise, my worship, my service, my commitment, and my obedience.

Worship is submission to Him, to His will for me, and to His plans for me. It is living out my faith in Him because I trust Him. Not because I will do everything right, something I am not able to do, but because I will do my best to follow Him and do what He asks of me.

Worship is living a surrendered life to an Almighty, Sovereign Creator, and Savior of my soul. It is making Him the Lord of my life, and that means that He rules, He decides, He leads, and He speaks. I listen and obey and follow to the best of my ability.
