Be Careful of Drifting

Posted on April 18, 2026April 18, 2026 By Maud No Comments on Be Careful of Drifting

Therefore, we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

Hebrew 2:1

If you read the first chapter of Hebrews it tells us that Jesus is not a created being, but He is God and He is the Savior of the world. Angels are sent to minister to us who will receive salvation, but it is only the blood of Jesus that will save us.

We might think that we know all there is to know, or at least we know enough to get to heaven. But is that all we should know? Is that all that’s necessary?

It is easy to think that we know and understand the Word of God without even reading it. But there is so much we need to learn! When we get too comfortable with the knowledge we have, or think we have, it’s easy to get complacent and we don’t even try to go deeper, and when it comes to God and His Word there is always more we should know. We never get too old to learn.

The Bible refers to God’s “manifold wisdom” in Ephesians 3:10, which means that it is many-sided and complex. So we must not think that we have even scratched the surface of all that God has for us and wants us to understand. It is true that people get saved on their deathbeds and they don’t have time to get to know God better, and that’s okay when that happens. But for us, who have the opportunity to grow and learn, we should take every chance to do so.

When we don’t dig into the Word and seek to understand, and when we don’t spend time communicating with the Lord, it becomes easy to lose interest, and before we know it, we have stopped growing and then drift away.

And there is another side to paying closer attention.

Jesus said in John 13:17, “If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them!”

In Luke 11:28 He said, “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
